The first ever gathering of indigenous television leaders from throughout the world will be held in Auckland, New Zealand, from March 26-28, 2008. The World Indigenous Television Broadcasting Conference – WITBC ’08 – is aimed at unifying, strengthening and promoting indigenous broadcasters.
The theme of the three-day conference is ‘Reclaiming the Future’ which has been chosen because it is inspirational, positive and forward-focused. Indigenous broadcasting is making great progress all over the world and there is renewed pride in indigenous issues, cultures and native languages.
WITBC ’08 will feature internationally renowned speakers who are industry experts in the fields of broadcasting, media and indigenous languages; a conference dinner to honour the contribution of indigenous broadcasting; and the launch of a World Indigenous Television Broadcasters Network.
New Zealand’s national indigenous broadcaster, Māori Television, will host the inaugural WITBC ’08 as part of its commitment to the development of indigenous television. It is hoped the conference will become a permanent, prestigious international event hosted by a different broadcaster each time.
The conference will be a must for all leaders, producers and planners involved in indigenous television world-wide. Register your interest now by visiting www.witbc.org
